The New York City-based company announced the release on its X account, emphasizing the enhanced speed and cost-efficiency of Gen-3 Alpha Turbo. According to Runway co-founder and CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela, the new model is so fast that it now takes longer to type a sentence than to generate a video. This leap in speed addresses the time lag issue in AI video generation, enabling near real-time video production and offering a more efficient workflow for users, particularly in industries requiring quick turnaround times.
Runway has also strategically lowered the cost of using Gen-3 Alpha Turbo to encourage widespread adoption of its technology. The model, which is priced at 5 credits per second of video generated, is available across all subscription plans, including free trials. Credits can be purchased in bundles starting at 1,000 credits for $10, making the cost $0.01 per credit. This pricing strategy positions Runway to maintain a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving AI video generation market, where it faces competition from companies like Pika Labs, Luma AI, Kuaishou, and OpenAI.
