Opera One Expands to iOS with AI Features and Mobile Optimization

Opera has expanded its AI-driven web browser, Opera One, to iOS devices. Originally launched for desktop, Opera One focuses on generative AI features and is now available for users on Apple’s mobile platform.

The iOS version preserves the desktop’s cleaner design while adapting it with a full-screen interface and mobile-specific features. The expansion to iOS follows significant growth in Opera’s user base, particularly in the European Union, where the company recorded a 63 percent increase in new users. This surge in adoption occurred after the implementation of the Digital Markets Act, which Opera credits for providing new regulatory opportunities that the company has embraced.

One of the standout features of Opera One for iOS is the customizable search bar, which users can move to the bottom of the screen. This option enhances ease of use, especially for those typing with one hand while on the go.

Additionally, the search bar can be activated by swiping down on the screen, a gesture familiar to iOS users who often use it to search for apps on their devices. The updated search functionality also introduces predictive chips that appear above the keyboard as soon as users begin typing, offering suggestions that include complete URLs for quick navigation to websites.

The browser’s design adapts to the content being viewed by changing the color of the top bar and the bottom search bar to match the website’s theme. Both of these bars automatically disappear once browsing begins, offering a cleaner, more immersive experience.

Opera One’s emphasis on generative AI is evident with the inclusion of the Aria browser assistant, now built directly into the iOS version. Aria features voice input, allowing users to speak their queries rather than type them. In addition to text-based queries, users can ask Aria to generate images using Google’s Imagen2 image generation model, further integrating AI capabilities into everyday browsing.

Recognizing the importance of security and privacy, Opera One on iOS also includes a built-in ad blocker and offers a free VPN service, enhancing the protection of users’ online activities.
