Kamala Harris Campaign Reports $200 Million Raised in First Week, Including $95 Million from Biden Transfer

Kamala Harris Campaign Reports 0 Million Raised in First Week, Including Million from Biden Transfer

In the first week of her presidential campaign, Kamala Harris has achieved a notable fundraising milestone, amassing $200 million and enrolling 170,000 new volunteers, according to a statement from her deputy campaign manager. Rob Flaherty shared this update on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, highlighting the campaign’s rapid momentum.

“66% of that is from new donors. We’ve signed up 170,000 new volunteers,” Flaherty said. “A people-powered campaign for a people-powered presidency!”

Additional Funds and Legal Disputes

This substantial sum adds to the approximately $95 million that Harris inherited from the Biden campaign. The transfer of these funds has sparked controversy, with former President Donald Trump filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission. Trump argues that Harris should not have been legally allowed to take over the funds from Biden’s campaign.

Biden’s Withdrawal and Harris’s Nomination

The announcement follows President Joe Biden’s recent decision to withdraw from the presidential race, endorsing Harris as the Democratic Party nominee. The day after Biden’s withdrawal, Harris secured enough delegate endorsements to clinch the Democratic nomination for president.

In her statement, Harris expressed gratitude and resolve: “When I announced my campaign for President, I said I intended to go out and earn this nomination. Tonight, I am proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party’s nominee, and as a daughter of California, I am proud that my home state’s delegation has helped put our campaign over the top. I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon.”

Upcoming Democratic National Convention

The Democratic National Convention is scheduled for August 19-22, where Harris will formally accept her nomination.

Harris’s favorability rating has seen a significant increase, rising to 43% from 35% in the past week, according to a recent ABC News/Ipsos poll released on Sunday.

Metric Details
Funds Raised (First Week) $200 million
Percentage from New Donors 66%
New Volunteers Signed Up 170,000
Inherited Funds from Biden $95 million
Current Favorability Rating 43% (up from 35%)
Democratic National Convention Dates August 19-22, 2024

Kamala Harris’s campaign has made a strong start with significant fundraising and volunteer engagement. Despite the legal challenges surrounding the funds from the Biden campaign, Harris’s rising popularity and rapid campaign growth reflect her solidifying position as the Democratic nominee.
